Craft Candy

It seems ages since our last Mini fair, in fact it was the week before Candyfloss, doesn’t time fly?  Well, we’re back again with 9 stalls of craft goodies, ranging from jewellery to textiles, photography and art, every Mini is a different mix of quality handmade items.

1-5pm tomorrow at Bungalows and Bears on Division Street, Sheffield.  Free entry for all!

The fabulous Kate Sutton has worked her magic again to provide us with yet another fantastic flyer – this time for our upcoming 2nd annual Candyfloss Craft Fair.  The flyer and buttons will shortly be available to download on our fairs site if you’d like to publicise the fair on your website or blog.

You can see more of the flyers Kate has designed for us here in our Flickr album and you can apply for our fair here on our Craft Candy Fairs site.  Get your application in quick though because the closing date isn’t far away now – you have until the 31st May to apply.

We have some good news for all of those who missed out on getting a place at Gemma’s Craft Candy Etui workshop recently – Gemma will be running a session in her studio in Rotherham.  On Saturday the 1st of May the button tin will be hosting its first official vintage craft workshop and afternoon tea party at the Imperial Buildings, followed by live music and refreshments from 5pm onwards.  This workshop will launch a fabulous set of vintage craft workshops at The Button Tin.

Fore more information visit Gemma’s website.  For those of you who can’t get to Rotherham, Gemma will be running another session for us in August in Sheffield so watch out for that!

Yesterday I went to visit Craft Candy member Gemma Nemer in her new studio in the recently opened Imperial Buildings in Rotherham and I was really impressed with how fabulous everything looked.  The building is fantastic and makes a lovely setting for artists studios.  Most of the studios are situated around the gorgeous central courtyard and kiosk.

The building isn’t up to full capacity just yet but several artists and makers have already moved in, one of the nicest studios is the central kiosk though that Gemma is sharing with 3 other makers.  I was spoilt rotten by Gemma who gave me a tour and offered me countless biscuits and tea (out of lovely vintage teacups and saucers!)

Gemma is a textile artist, we’ve featured her beautiful work before on the Craft Candy blog, you can take another look at it here.  It was great to be able to see Gemma at work and it was obvious that she’d spent a great deal of time making the studio in to a lovely place to work and run workshops.  The studio is adorned with bunting, jars of buttons and vintage clothes and tea sets, I was there for 2 hours but really didn’t want to leave to catch my train back to Sheffield!

Gemma also employed the talents of 2 Craft Candy members to add some finishing touches.  Sarah Waterhouse screen printed the two signs for her window and Heather Dewick made some lovely hand bound photo albums to display all Gemma’s photographs of her workshops and collections.

Gemma will be starting workshops very soon and don’t worry, we’ll be posting on the Craft Candy Blog when they start.  In the meantime visit www.gemma-nemer.co.uk for more information or to contact Gemma, or why not take a trip to Rotherham and see the studio for yourself?  The buildings are now open to the public (check with Gemma first though to make sure she will be in her studio before you come!)

We’re now on the official countdown to 2nd annual Spring Fling Craft Fair and we have our lovely new flyer!

The brilliant Kate Sutton has designed this for us…

Now I’m really looking forward to blue skies and Spring!

Come along to the Millennium Gallery on 27th March for lots of gorgeous stalls of beautiful contemporary craft!

Here is our Facebook event – invite all your friends.

Our member Phantoms Siren, otherwise known as Vyctoria, has been featured in Irregular Magazine.  You can download a free copy here:

The interview features lots of fantastic images of Vyctoria’s work and also the alternative Craft Candy logo she designed which we absolutely adore!  Here it is!

Craft Candy logo

Here Vyctoria explains why she designed this little beauty!

“When I set up my new personal website I wanted in include the Craft Candy logo somewhere on the site, however the official pastel coloured logos weren’t really appropriate for a Victorian-Steampunk-Horror themed site, so I set out the design something more appropriate to my style. The logo is based on the designs used in Victorian advertising, especially their sweet tins and household products- limited colours, bold text and simple graphics.”

Vyctoria’s website is here.  For more information about Vyctoria you can also view her Postcard on the Craft Candy site.

Due to an unfortunate power cut last weekend at Bungalows and Bears our Mini fair had to be cancelled, boo hoo!  The great news is that we’ve rescheduled it for this weekend so this is your last chance to get your hands on some wonderful craft goodies!

The time of the fair has changed a little because of a music event that evening at the venue so it’s now 1-5pm!!

See you there! xx

Craft Candy have been busy meeting the peeps of Sheffield this weekend and doing our bit for the Sheffield craft scene – it was the Wool & Textiles Craft Fair at St Mary’s Church in Walkley.  If you came down to say hello then thank you -we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

The fair was organised by Jill of The Wool Baa who was wearing a bright t-shirt all weekend which had Flock Leader on the back – I wish I’d got a picture of it!

Here was the pretty Craft Candy table in action:

And pretty Leah looking lovely (and me pulling a funny face as usual)

We had a display of the workshop examples from all the workshops we’ve done over the last few months as well as our mailing list and leaflets to advertise the workshops.  Then we had my textiles, Leah’s crochet jewellery, Vyctoria’s cards, yarns and stitch markers and Louise’s prints and cards.  Everything looked gorgeous and we had lots of compliments on everyone’s work.

I think Jill should definitely make this a regular event because it was great.  I was on the stall most of the time but did get a little chance to have a nosey at some of the other stalls like Patchwork Garden, Wingham Wool Work and some of the other groups who were there like the Lace Makers Guild and Knitting and Crochet Guild.  Jill of course had her stall full of goodies like yarns and books – there was just so much to look at and not enough time really!

So a big thank you to Jill and also a big thank you to St Mary’s and their vicar and all of the lovely volunteers there who kept us topped up with drinks, sarnies and biscuits!

Last night was 2nd meeting of the Seven Hills WI, the latest fabulous addition to the Sheffield social scene.  I was contacted by Lindsay, group organiser a couple of months ago and told about the exciting new WI.  Unfortunately I couldn’t make the first meeting but I couldn’t miss the 2nd meeting last night as I was employed as handy assistant to Lucia who taught her fabulous Birdie Brooch workshop to 50 willing ladies.

The evening was fantastic and everyone seemed to have a really good time.  This will be the first of 4 workshops that Craft Candy will be doing with the WI and I can’t wait!  I filled in my form and signed up last night – anyone else feeling the urge to admit they’d always wanted to join the WI – hands up please!
