Patchwork Garden

I had heard the name Patchwork Garden being mentioned by Craft Candy members a few times and was curious to find out more. Then I saw some photos of the shop  interior on flickr and  decided I’d have to visit in person. If you like fabrics then you’ll like this place. The Patchwork Garden on Abbeydale Road Sheffield has an extensive fabric collection of traditional and modern designs, books, magazines, sewing notions and the full range of DMC threads. Tricia the owner told me that she was expecting some new Amy Butler fabric designs any day now (they are a mix of vintage and retro designs with a modern edge). There are a variety of sewing workshops available at the shop suitable for beginners and for those wanting to try out different sewing techniques. If you click on the picture below you’ll go straight to the Patchwork Garden website and find more details about workshops and opening times.

Patchwork Garden

We have an exciting new workshop booked in already and it’s not very far away – Saturday 2nd May!  We have got the fabulous Gemma Nemer to teach a constructed textiles workshop and I’m really excited about this one.  Gemma’s work is absolutely gorgeous, she used vintage fabric and buttons to create really unique pieces of jewellery.

Fabric necklace

This is one of her necklaces, they are absolutely gorgeous – I really want this one, I have one of her rings already though so I’m happy to have just that for the moment.  Gemma has sold her work in galleries all over and has also taught many workshops including ones at Yorkshire Sculpture park.  In our workshop she will be teaching you how to make brooches and hair slides like these:

The session lasts 4 hours and costs £18, to book and for more information please visit our website, hope to see you there!

The Wool Baa knitting shop is situated on a corner of Hunters Bar at the end of Ecclesall Road Sheffield and stocks an extensive range of contemporary yarns. Jill the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about her stock and able to advise regarding yarn and pattern selection if needed. On the day I visited she was busy with customers and she also had a lovely group of ladies gathered around the table doing crochet ( who were just about to have coffee together).

Some of the pastel shades available in the Debbie Bliss range of Baby Bamboo and Sublime yarns.

Vibrant colours in the Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn range which is new and just arrived in the shop.

I could have spent more time and bought far more in this lovely shop, I settled on this blue organic cotton along with a set of circular needles from the very good selection of knitting accessories.

Selection of buttons and button storage tins.

A corner of the window promoting the relaunch of Sirdars Snowfklake DK in lovely pastel shades popular for small childrens knitting projects.

And last but not least some woolly things. Clicking on the picture will open a new window for The Wool Baa website.
