It couldn’t have been a nicer day on Saturday which is exactly what you need for an outdoor event!  Last Saturday was the Sheffield Pride 2009 event in Endcliffe park and it was huge success!  The weather was gorgeous, the music was great and everyone had come well prepared for a picnic in the park.  Craft Candy were there teaching a free Origami workshop in the creativity tent and thanks to Yvonne our tutor, the session was brilliant fun!

Tutor Yvonne

We were really looking forward to doing this workshop because it’s a free event and they are always great fun to organise!  We had a constant stream of people who dropped in some impromptu origami and lots of families with children which was great.  We were in the creativity tent and had the hour slot just after the art workshop and just before the drumming session – we were glad to be out of the heat to be honest – it was nice and cool in there!

Origami papers

Yvonne brought a variety of different papers for the session and also brought with her a bouquet of ready made lilies in our signature hot pink which we gave out to people passing by and those who attended the workshop.  It was a nice informal drop in type session which was great as people came and went and the hour just whizzed by – we had to turn people away in the end which was a shame but we had to make way for the drumming workshop to set up!

Making origami boxes

We also had a great little handout which featured the three more complicated models that Yvonne taught so that people could take it home and practise.

All in all a fun day was had by all, thanks to Sheffield Pride for booking us and for putting on such a great event and thank to Yvonne who stepped in to teach a great workshop!

Happy origami people!

We’re super excited about this – we’re offering our first FREE workshop here at Craft Candy, yes absolutely FREE!  I sound a little like an annoying TV commercial don’t I??!?!

Craft Candy is 1 year old in July and we just wanted to be able to give something back so here it is, a free Birdie Brooch workshop with the hugely talented Betty Joy.  You can go to our workshops page to register your interest and then we’re going to pick some names out of a hat and let the lucky participants know in 2 weeks.

Birdie Brooch

This is a fun and easy workshop where you will learn to make colorful birdie brooches for you or your friends, using laminated birdies in a nest of sari fabric, silk scarves, other fabrics and vintage buttons and ribbons.  You will have the chance to make a couple of different brooches and will also be provided with sheets to take away providing instructions on how to make other corsages and brooches from fabric.  How great does that sound?

Good luck!
