Ey up. Have you missed me. Well if you’re wondering what’s been keeping me from my weekly MUSEROUND curatorship, you won’t have to wonder much longer. I’ve been using every bit of my evenings and weekends to re-stock for Craft Candy‘s second annual Spring Fling event. And boy what an event it was. All the hard work organising, promoting and hand selecting the very cream of the UK craft scent wholly paid off. Up to the minute, leading edge design was the theme of the day. Check out some of our members – our gorgeous welcome desk ladies Kati (organiser), Sophy and Leah on a 10 second break from the onslaught of record raffle ticket sales.

Green eyed congratulations to our Raffle winners:

1st Prize - Kirsten from Leeds

2nd Prize - Karen from Sheffield

3rd Prize - Laura from Sheffield

It was fantastic! What a location though, The Millennium Galleries; bang in the centre of Sheffield and a thoroughfare for wonderful customers looking for handmade treasures. Over 1200 treasure-seekers entered the Long Gallery with many more passing through our stalls in the Avenue. Our fairs just go from strength to strength, I’m so proud.  Here’s to our next fair at the Millennium in July! See our Craft Candy fair guru Sarah Waterhouse on her textiles stall.

A newbie stallholder at our fairs, illustrator alissha lissha! and WINNER of our Best Dressed Stall award, winning a free stall at our next fair!

You can get on Craft Candy’s mailing lists to keep up to date for stall bookings, our workshops, or for our latest news and events. Just to reiterate how thrilled I was with our friendly customers, stallholder camaraderie, and uber efficient event organisers. Top notch girls!

Now into our second year of producing highly successful contemporary craft fairs, Sheffield’s very own Craft Candy are extremely excited to bring you this year’s Spring Fling Fair at the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield.

On 27th March (10-4pm), more than 30 hand-selected exhibitors will showcase the cream of the UK craft scene, jam-packing the gallery with highly sought-after one of a kind pieces. Our guest experience is very important to us and as always our fairs are completely free to attend. You most welcome to browse the stalls, enjoy a coffee in the cafes, and soak up the inspiring atmosphere. Choose from a vast selection of jewellery, bags & accessories, stationery, home-wares and ceramics.

And why not give our treasure-loaded raffle a whirl for chances to win our exclusive handmade goodies!

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO INVITE YOUR FRIENDS. YOUR FRIENDS ARE OUR FRIENDS.

Yesterday I went to visit Craft Candy member Gemma Nemer in her new studio in the recently opened Imperial Buildings in Rotherham and I was really impressed with how fabulous everything looked.  The building is fantastic and makes a lovely setting for artists studios.  Most of the studios are situated around the gorgeous central courtyard and kiosk.

The building isn’t up to full capacity just yet but several artists and makers have already moved in, one of the nicest studios is the central kiosk though that Gemma is sharing with 3 other makers.  I was spoilt rotten by Gemma who gave me a tour and offered me countless biscuits and tea (out of lovely vintage teacups and saucers!)

Gemma is a textile artist, we’ve featured her beautiful work before on the Craft Candy blog, you can take another look at it here.  It was great to be able to see Gemma at work and it was obvious that she’d spent a great deal of time making the studio in to a lovely place to work and run workshops.  The studio is adorned with bunting, jars of buttons and vintage clothes and tea sets, I was there for 2 hours but really didn’t want to leave to catch my train back to Sheffield!

Gemma also employed the talents of 2 Craft Candy members to add some finishing touches.  Sarah Waterhouse screen printed the two signs for her window and Heather Dewick made some lovely hand bound photo albums to display all Gemma’s photographs of her workshops and collections.

Gemma will be starting workshops very soon and don’t worry, we’ll be posting on the Craft Candy Blog when they start.  In the meantime visit www.gemma-nemer.co.uk for more information or to contact Gemma, or why not take a trip to Rotherham and see the studio for yourself?  The buildings are now open to the public (check with Gemma first though to make sure she will be in her studio before you come!)

A very quick surrender to the Alice in Wonderland hype type post. I have been slinging in the lab hours for the last couple of weeks am I’m fit to bust without my MUSEROUND fix.

1. Beautifully whipped up by Silent Theatre whilst “waiting for that e-mail when Helena Bonham Carter asks me to be her personal costume/accessory designer”

2. Anyone for tea? Meet The Mad Catter – he throws the most amazing tea parties I know, mountains of cakes… overflowing cupfuls of tea… mmm just divine! He even brings his own cup of tea with him too…by The Other Mousie.

3. Alice character notebooks from Niche Handmade. The cover print is from a scan of the endpapers of an edition of Alice in Wonderland, published in 1898.

4. Fluffs Stuffs wonderment. Alice, the white rabbit, the Hatter’s teapot and the Queen’s crown accompanied by a key charm and a black glass heart. Good stuffs.

OK see you Wednesday for a ‘proper’ MUSEROUND {winks}

If you are in Rotherham, Sheffield or the surrounding area tomorrow then stop by the Imperial Buildings for the Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance (ROAR) event.  There will be workshops, events and music and a chance to have a look at some of the artists studios, all in the gorgeous redeveloped Imperial Buildings.  Our very own Gemma Nemer will be there running an event from 2-6pm so stop by and have a look!
